TL;DR: 11-17 Oct 2026: no new retatrutide trial data; FDA logged two death reports on unapproved "Reta" products, and GLP-1 safety evidence has gaps.
Peptide Research Week in Review: 11-17 October 2026
What Happened in Peptide Research This Week (11-17 Oct 2026)?
It was another week of safety-and-status stories rather than trial readouts. We found no new retatrutide data release between 11 and 17 October. The most widely covered item was CBS News reporting, on 13 October, that the FDA had received two death reports involving products sold as retatrutide.[1] Alongside it came previews of Eli Lilly's third-quarter earnings, which reporting places on 29 October,[2] and continued coverage of how little is known about the frequency of safety events reported for the GLP-1 drug class.[3]
Everything below is third-party reporting on pharmaceutical and academic research. It is not a description of, or endorsement of, any use of research reagents outside the laboratory. For last week's digest, see Peptide Research Week in Review: 4-10 October 2026.
Where Does Retatrutide Research Stand on 17 October 2026?
Unchanged in substance. Retatrutide (LY3437943), Eli Lilly's investigational GIP/GLP-1/glucagon triple agonist, has no marketing authorisation from any regulator. In its second-quarter 2026 release, Lilly said the clinical data package is complete to support global registrations and that a US FDA submission is planned for the first quarter of 2027.[4] The peer-reviewed phase 3 record remains the TRIUMPH-1 and TRIUMPH-2 reports from late September, and the TRIUMPH-3 results in participants with severe obesity and established cardiovascular disease remain topline-only from Lilly's 23 July announcement.[5]
The legal question is also unchanged: the Seventh Circuit heard argument on 24 September in Eli Lilly and Company v. Kennedy over the FDA's classification of retatrutide, and we found no report of a ruling this week. See what happens after the hearing and our Q3 earnings preview, which sets out what Lilly has and has not disclosed. For compound specifications only, the research-grade retatrutide page lists purity and format.
What Do the Two FDA Death Reports Actually Show?
CBS News reported on 13 October 2026 that the FDA's adverse-event system holds two reports of deaths after use of products sold online as retatrutide. Secondary coverage describes one event in July and one in September, and says Lilly stated that neither person was a participant in its trials.[1][6]

The limits matter more than the headline. A FAERS report is a voluntary submission that the FDA does not verify; it does not establish that a product contained retatrutide, what else it contained, or that it caused the outcome. The coverage itself notes that the FDA would not say whether it had verified either report. What the reports do illustrate is the provenance problem in unlicensed supply chains, where product identity, purity and sterility are unknown. This is why batch-level analytical documentation is the baseline for any research reagent; see how to read a certificate of analysis. Our fuller write-up is here, with a primer on how FAERS data should be read.
What Did the Week Add on GLP-1 Class Safety Evidence?
Mostly a reminder of data gaps. NPR's 10 October report on ongoing GLP-1 injury litigation noted that the lawsuits are proceeding without reliable data on how often the alleged events occur; our NAION evidence summary sets that against the published observational studies, including a July 2026 Annals of Internal Medicine analysis.[3][7] Separately, ANZCA's 5 October notice on gastric emptying in patients having surgery was still circulating; see the ANZCA guide. These are observational and advisory items, not new trial results, and none concerns research-reagent use.
What Should Researchers Watch Next?
Three items. First, Lilly's third-quarter release, reported for 29 October, for any change to filing or manufacturing timelines. Second, any Seventh Circuit opinion, which could land without notice. Third, whether the FDA or other regulators publish further data on adverse-event reports tied to unapproved retatrutide products. The US 503A Bulks List question from July's advisory vote also remains open; see our PCAC vote outcome guide.
Does This Week's News Change UK Research-Reagent Supply?
No. Retatrutide remains an investigational compound with no marketing authorisation from the FDA, MHRA or any regulator, and none of this week's developments alters the position for in vitro research use in the UK. Velox Peptides supplies retatrutide strictly as an HPLC-verified research reagent, with no health or therapeutic claims. Researchers should verify any reagent against its certificate of analysis.
This compound is supplied as a research reagent only. It is not a medicine and has not been evaluated by the MHRA or FDA for use in our products. Not for human or veterinary use. See our Research Use Policy and MHRA Statement.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happened in peptide research between 11 and 17 October 2026?
No new retatrutide trial readout appeared. Reported items were CBS News coverage of two death reports to the FDA involving products sold as retatrutide (causation unproven), previews of Eli Lilly's third-quarter earnings, and continued reporting on how little is known about the frequency of GLP-1 safety events.
Is retatrutide approved as of 17 October 2026?
No. Retatrutide is investigational and has no marketing authorisation from the FDA, MHRA or any regulator. Eli Lilly has said it plans to submit to the FDA in the first quarter of 2027.
Do the FDA death reports show that retatrutide caused harm?
No. The reports are unverified, the contents of the products involved are unknown, and Lilly said neither person was in its trials. Adverse-event reports can signal a question but cannot establish causation.
Is there a new retatrutide court ruling?
We found no report of a Seventh Circuit ruling in Eli Lilly and Company v. Kennedy between 11 and 17 October. The appeal was argued on 24 September, and appellate decisions commonly take months.
Is retatrutide legal to buy in the UK for research?
Yes, for in vitro research purposes only. It is not a licensed medicine and is not approved for human use. Velox Peptides supplies it strictly as a research reagent under its Research Use Policy.
